Lost Odyssey, anything worth spending GO ...

Is there anything worth using ur gold on? I hate buying some nice weapons or item from a merchant only to discover I can find it (or a superior item) in a chest or as a lootdrop like 15 mins after i buy it.In other words, is there a unique great item that u can ONLY get by purchasing from a merchant?
