ive got xbox live silver on my new xbox 360 and want to get the free 30 day trial of gold, but when i go onto my account manager and and press modify xbox live it comes up with one month xbox live,3 month xbox live or 12 month xbox live but no 30 day free trail,please help mebig problem with xbox live

You can't apply the free month of gold on any account unless it's a newly made one..and makes sure you're connected to the internet when creating the account.
