I just got my third xbox, and it seems a little different to me. first, it makes sort of a weird noise when I put a disk in and turn it on. On my old one, the only noise I remember was a loud whirring, but the whirring was consistent-sounding. Also this particular xbox sounds very loud when running. I have a subwoofer/home theater, and at one point I could hear the xbox over it! My question is this: could this xbox I just got be made a little bit differently than my last one, meaning that the sounds are normal? And also, what does everyone else's xbox sound like?

they are all pretty loud unless you install the game which, if you have a large enough HDD, i recommend for every game you are playing atmwhat does your xbox sound like while bei ...
Make sure you take out the Extra Warranty out, it's worth the extra 50 bucks just to take it back to the store and exchange it instead of going through MS.Sorry but my last 3 Xbox360 sounded bad when started up and runningand all 3 lasted less then a year.
The Failure rate for a 360 is way higher then 60% I think its more near 150% percent..Mine sounds like a Jet Plane..There really good in the winter time, I just turn my 360 on and it heats up my room! i love it ;)
mines very quit but I have a Jasper 360.
when i put in my friend's ODST it makes a loud humming noise, every now and then it does the same thing, but otherwise, it's normal with the occasional weird sound*note the fact it works fine despite the humming, which has been going on for over a year
My current(3rd) is pretty quiet, but the first two sounded like a jet before takeoff.
After buying Fable 2, popped it in, played it, and now it sounds like a jet taking off.

Mine resembles the sound you hear when you are on a 747 jet airliner and you are sitting in the row right next to the engine.
To put it simply, it's loud.
There are two main noisemakers in the 360: the disc drive and the fan. My fan is obscenely loud if the Xbox is on its side, but quiet when it's put upright.
The disc drive noise varies based on what disc is in though. I don't know why, but when I'm playing Call of Duty the disc makes very little noise, but when I'm playing Halo 3 or Fable 2 it gets really noisy.
If it's the disc drive, install your games (if you can, Halo 3 isn't optimized for HDD installs so I'm stuck with noise there). If it's the fan, try re-orienting your Xbox.
A %26 C: It doesn't make any noise except for a little humming when the disc loads up.
A chainsaw.And no, that wasn't an exaggeration.
i have a new jasper chipset arcade and it is really quiet and barely gets warm after a 4 hr session
It sounds better than the first few that I had. I plan on getting an Elite next month to install games to the HDD so most likely it'll be quiet then.

my xbox is loud to not to loud but its not as silent as the ps3... mine vibrates for about a second when I insert a game... only got it a few days ago, just make sure you got warrenty FROM THE SHOP you bought your xbox from. Well thats my advice.
My new Elite is really quiet, but its because of the Jasper. Before, it sounded like a freakin jet engine :)
Mine sounds like a lear jet being tested in a wind tunnel. On top of that, due to having two xbox's die from possible heat in the past, I now blow a fan on this third one. So it sounds like a lear jet being tested in a wind tunnel during a hurricane.Yes, yes, some say ''Get a PS3 its quieter'' but I already have a PS3 and I really only play PS3 exclusives on it. My love is with the 360!
I Install My Games So It Just Sounds Like If You Turned It On And You Were Not Playing Anything At All Which Makes Me More Secure, Yeah I Also Have Jasper 360 Arcade Which Would Probably Be The Best Model With A Higher Rate Of Not Getting RROD.
