Sorry for the title, I couldn't think of another way to describe it. I want an upgraded version of the 2-d Mortal Kombat. Ever since MK went 3D they completely lost their gritty feel. Instead it is a run of the mill cartoony looking 3d fighter. The original MK in the arcade was unbelievable. They used real actors for movements and ten took a picture of them and overlaid it on polygons in the game. It felt so much better than any other fighting game I had ever played, plus the gore was over the top.Couldn't they take this fantastic game, update the graphics, fluidity of movement and balance the fighters? With the unprecendet evolution of hardware and software, they could do a great job using actors for all movements and then add special effects for the super tricks. Realistic(not cel shaded or cartoony) backrounds also help with the feel of the game. Just like they have done 9 times for Absolutely Ultimate Street Fighter 4 turbo extreme arcade version. Okay so I am making fun of street fighter(which I really do love), but it is to make a point. MK was one of the best fighting games ever, and may be the game that caused the ESRB to be created.Do you Gamespotters know what I mean? Instead of the 3d cartoon characters, reveamp the 2d arcade game with the most fluid and realistic looking graphics technology can give. Make the game with realistic blood effects, not the silly over the top blood spurts, which look fake.Instead ofactually making it look like blood spatter. Updating the graphics so they look like more like real people, the game will once again have that shock value that it lost when MK went 3D.Heck, maybe I am out of the loop, maybe Midway-who I don't think owns the property anymore- already did this. If they did I never saw it.Who wants to see this happen? I think it would be awesome.Mortal Kombat re-armed
signed but it'll never happenMortal Kombat re-armed
MK Trilogy FTW
Definitely man, I would love that -- MK2 was incredibly fun on the Genesis (and to me, the high-point of the series along with MK3), and a new game with a similar style and feel would be awesome.Didn't Ed Boon say the next MK game is going to be more dark and violent (at least than MK vs DC)? I'm praying it is...

any other Mortal Kombat is more dark and violent than MK vs DC, I have been wishing an overhaul on the series, I did love MK 3 but I still liked a lot Mortal Kombat Deception which seemed a step in the right direction, now if they part from there and evolve into a more brutal and with a realistic feel on movesets, it would be awesome
it would be cool, but I don't see it happening.
signed but it'll never happen
I know you agree, it really should happen. I mean if they can redo street fighter 38 times and give Bionic Commando(which used to be one of my favorite games on N) a facelift, they certainly have the ability to do it.This is an idea that I think is so good, I may just call Boon and Tobias aka Noob Saibot, and tell them the idea. It would be a massive hit and would finally bring back the MK series which has been slowly dying for a decade. It would also bring back the essence of the game. Gritty, gory, over the top and surprising brutality.Instead of how it is perceived now. A little clunky, really cartoony and ridiculously stupid looking blood effects... and with the oddly paired DC characters in the last iteration, very low violence.
I always thought of the old mortal kombat games as being cheap knockoffs of the street fighter series.
and make it not so impossible

That is kind of funny. I enjoyed both in the arcade for totally different reasons. Street Fighter was really the first of it's king with 6 buttons and a well balanced fighter, which in later iterations had power moves.
MK was realistic looking because of the pictures and was way more brutal than any game I had seen before. Add to that the finishing moves and it is an awesome game in its own right.
BTW, I have played all MKs since they were in the arcade. I have to say without a doubt MK Trilogy was the pinnacle of that series even though it was rated really low. It had the most complete roster and the most special moves, making it the most fun MK ever.
For the sake of shock value, if Ultimate MK 3 will be remade on next gen consoles, it'll be a day one purchase for me.

Now that's what I am talking about.
MK2 gives me fond memories of Easter! I would love to see that style of animation again.
I'd love to see MK 1, II and 3 (UMK3) get the HD treatment like SF did. I still play MKII on my PS3 and UMK3 on my 360.
So many good memories of MK in the arcade. The game would look awesome in HD. I can't believe Ed Boon hasn't already released this to the public.
yeah that would be awesome if they did that.
deception was pretty dark imo, especially the konquest part. man that game was so fun.
some of their 3d games where really good imo mk4 was amazing when it first came out. deception was alright too.
Monks was really good
idk what they were thinkin with mk vs dc
I enjoy the most of 3d ones as much as the 2d ones
i agree with TC on this, i have been saying this for years... i mean i dont understand why they had to go totally 3d, it was great for Deception but they should go back to the drawing board completely, like TC said, use Real People, Green Screen Backdrops good backdrops like revamp Mk1 and Mk2 levels, and give us a solid game again instead of this stupid poloygon garbage i mean, really MK has no chance competeing with SF and Tekken or hell even Virtua Fighter so they should vert in a completely new direction. But then again MK team is stupid and didnt learn by their mistakes, YEA MK VS DC.....blarf.
this would be really sweet if they did it right and good but I could only see it worth buy as an arcade game i dnt think it would be worth 60$
mortal kombat 9 is listed as tba on gamspot
