Don't get me wrong, I think Borderlands is a great game. But if they had fleshed out the ''role-playing'' aspect a little more, it could have easily gotten well into the 90 percentile range and would have become one of my all-time favs. Here are some things I wish they had done better1. Customize the appearance of your character: I'm talking face, skin tone, body shape, hair, height, clothes (not just the color), and this would have really made individual characters stand out more. I mean it's not like the stand-in heroes have any sort of personality or background anyway.2. More skills: Every character really only has one ''skill'', and all the other things in the skill tree seem to just be about modifying your stats and upgrading your only ''skill''. Allow me to really individualize my character.3. A better item-trading system: seriously, a secure menu where you can offer trades with other players without dropping your gear out in the open, was that really too much to ask? There are other things, but those are the main ones. Anyone agree, disagree?Disappointed with the ''role-playing ...
Character customization isn't a big deal, but I actually would've liked some more personality from the characters other than their simple one-liners after crit kills. The gameplay itself is addictively fun, but it would feel more memorable if the characters were memorable and interacted with each other more.I agree with you about the skill trees and the item-trading, though.Disappointed with the ''role-playing ...

That's a cool shirt'' but apart from that I don't find a need. Your second point is a valid point but so far I can't complain. I'm playing as Lilith and I haven't had this much fun Phasewalking since I first saw a tank on Left 4 Dead. And thirdly, yes, a roll for loot over greens would have been nice. I would go so far as to saying that it should've been standard. I mean, its stupid for one person to come around and pick up that one gun you wanted and then leave your game.
C: 1. Personally, it never really bothered me that much but, it's something I wouldn't mind seeing. 2. I would love to see them implement this if they ever make a sequel. This is where I would love to see customization most, more so than appearance. 3. This hasn't been a problem for me. Normally, I just give items away for free and receive items for free as well. But obviously, this is something that should be implemented.
Im in agreement with you on the customization of the game..Come on who is going to play siren really..No one wants to play a girl..My brother is the only person who plays a hunter...Every one is a soldier..Myslef i chose brink the tank..Hes tough but goes down to much..Should also be a bit more things, how to distribute ammo..Im always out, some times the shops are to far out of the area..They shouldve went the way hellgate went..Players get there own loot..Not a free for all loot system..In the end i think its a wrong way to go..How ever im addicted to the game..Been playing for hours each night after work..Ive got a lvl 15 tank..Also i agree with you on the stats...Im putting all my points into making his gun do more dmg..Though i should work on his armor..ALso last night we encountered mobs with electric bolts that are crazy..We duck the moment you stand you get hit..Thats a bit crazy, i love a challenge but to die every five minutes is not fun...

Seriously man? Its 2009! I'm playing Lilith, you know why?! Because I'm a SMG kinda guy, you wanna know why!? Because that's what I play on Call of Duty 4, UAV Jammer on with a silenced MP5, you know why!? Because I like sneaking around! Its really rather pathetic that people are still intimidated by playing women in video games. But on the other hand you are 100% right about the ammo. I feel that it should be spilt evenly just like money. And the difficulty only adds to the game. The down side to it is that I'm broke.Edit: Grammar mistake.

Um I play Lilith, she's probably the best character. Rarely ever die because you can just run away, and her melee coming out of Phasewalk is unreal when you max everything for it. Phasewalk allows you to get close enough to SMG/Shotgun, run away, or just using it to get from place to place is nice. Nice change from Fallout where you had to slowly walk everywhere.
Too insecure to play the girls? Is it going to turn you into one or something?
After completing the game on my first playthrough i can honestly say this is my favorite game ever. I think the skill trees are awesome and the trading could use some work but usually i play with few buddies so we are not greedy with the loot.

i agree, what? no one wants to play as a girl? thats absolutely ridiculous and extremely childish.
Each character has their own pros and cons and if you build em right can be extremely powerful. Myself, i went the way of straight brawler for brick; high health, high shield, amazing melee damage. The best part about beserk is that you regain health insanely quick and you also get damage resistance, plus once you start getting artifacts the damage and effect of beserks goes through the roof. Also gladestone he really shouldnt go down that much, at level 19 i have around 500 health; couple that when activated with beserk and you really should only go down when versing a boss or a good deal of ranged enemies

I completely agree with you on the character customization thing.
I kind of wish I could pick genders as well. Whenever I make a character, I pick a girl just because I like making avatars that represent me a little bit.I'm not uncomfortable playing Mordecai, but I think playing a girl sniper would be way cool.I'm having too much fun to not want to play the game for the trading issues, flaky difficulty scaling, and lack of customization, but it'd be nice to see in the sequel!
This is one of my favorite games for the 360, it's my GOTY. I like the skill trees and rpg elements, I think they're deep enough. I don't see any reason for character customization because this is an fps, you can't really see your character anyway, and I like the default characters. They'll probably add more skills and raise the level cap with the dlc if the game is successful. They probably should add a trading window too with a patch if the game sells well. It's still a great game though, people are focusing too on much on flaws be they real or just percieved.

I never said the game was bad. I just wanted to point out some easily fixable issues that could have made it live up more to it's self-proclaimed genre of a ROLE-PLAYING shooter.
That's because it's part FPS. They didn't want to make it an RPG completely.

But none of the suggestions I mentioned would diminish the FPS aspect of the game.

But what I've been seeing is that the game does have a lot of graphical and physical glitches.
